Hello World!

Welcome to our ‘Year in the Quiet House’ – who knows what will happen?! We are two retired/semi-retired teachers, brought down by the non-stop crises and misery of current life in the UK, but also finally able to pursue our long-held dream of living in Portugal – ever since we visited over 30 years ago in the early days of our coupledom. Circumstances, luck and coincidence have all combined to bring us to our new home on a mountain between Amarante and Marco de Canaveses in the Porto region of Northern Portugal. Renting it for a year, we hope to offer tales from our new life, as we try to settle into a new country, learn its (really difficult!) language, and hopefully make a few new friends.
